Today, I was thinking about how children seem to have a better grasp on right vs wrong than adults. Somewhere we lose our real morals and ethics and join the "left" or the "right." This contemplation brought about a short blog on MySpace. While I didn't think it was NewsVine caliber, I've had a few friends beg to differ. Here it is in its entirety; while I'm sure there are many more lines I could add to this, these are the ones that popped immediately into my mind.
Ask yourself... Why?
Somewhere between 100,000 and 650,000 Iraqi civilians are dead at the command of our government. Why?
Tens of thousands of couples in love have had their right to officially express that love revoked by their own brothers and sisters. Why?
Teenage girls are told that it's not OK to have sex under any circumstance, not even with protection, yet when they do it anyway, they're told that abortion is OK. Why?
Marijuana, a plant that has been cultivated for millenia and has never caused a death, is illegal while the pharmaceutical companies release drugs known to cause addiction, birth defects, and death. Why?
A million Americans are fighting against the ban of assault weapons, weapons designed to assault. Why?
Parents ask my peers and I daily how to break into their kids' MySpace and Facebook accounts instead of raising their kids with honesty and ethics. Why?
Malls are packed while art museums stand empty. Reality television dominates ratings while street musicians are treated as a nuisance. Why?
Folks who want food without chemicals, a world without wars, and a life free of greed and hate and violence are called hippies... as an insult. Why?
This country rails against the religious rule of Middle Eastern nations while simultaneously trying to ban science and stick the Bible in our classrooms. Why?
CEO's are making millions of dollars a year while laying off mothers and fathers and people with mortgages and medical bills to pay, all the while complaining about the "tough economic times." Why?
Corporations have outsourced labor, materials, and support, yet wonder why nobody here can afford their products anymore. Why?
Major companies have blown through billions of dollars and, instead of paying the price for not operating efficiently, the same people they have laid off now have to bail them out. Why?
We are the only civilized nation who insists on allowing people to profit off our health and well-being. Seniors have to buy their drugs from Canada to afford them. Why?
Fifty years ago, dad made a living, mom made a home, and families stayed together. Now, the few marriages that last involve two parents, four jobs, and kids raising themselves. Why?
To be considered a patriot in this country, you must want to murder innocent people just because they don't look or live like you. Peace has been demonized. Why?
Every time a new problem comes up, everyone blames Bush or Obama. First, we elected them both, and second, these two people do not control you... you control them. This used to be a representative government, now it's our scapegoat for all the problems we refuse to take into our own hands. Why?
This country has lost its way. It's embarassing. Schools have started banning hugging, punishable by the same penalty as punching another kid in the face. Eight states have banned smiling in driver's licenses so the government's facial recognition software can track our movements easier. What ever happened to freedom?
What will become of America if we all continue to do nothing?
